Did you know that there are only 4 distilleries in Ireland that produce all the Irish whisky the world sees. That is the main reason why the majority of what we see in the market are brands that we have always seen and, perhaps, easily overlook.
Jameson fits into this category. It has been on the shelf for as long as I can remember and in those 25 years there has been the vodka revolution, wine sales have grown 10 fold and of course there Craft Beer, so I think we can all be excused for not taking immediate notice of Jameson.
My drink of choice this past St. Patrick's Day was a dram of Irish Whisky and I chose the Jameson. The nose shows the vibrance and personality the emerald isle is famous for. The palate shows both citrus and floral characters, with a lovely flinty back bone. This is a brilliant dram for getting the palate refreshed or as you relax in the afternoon.
Here is what Jim Murray had to say in the 2012 Whisky Bible:
"Swoon...bizarrely shows more Pot Still chacracter than the Redbreast that I tasted yesterday.Flinty to the point of cracking. The Sherry is there but on reduced terms, allowing the firm grain to amplify the unmalted barley: truly brilliant." 95/100 Points
